Doing routines and popular dances from music videos is great but if you want to learn the rich history, culture and fundamentals of dancehall as a genre of dance this is "di place fi deh deh" Class is structured as followed but always allows room for the energy to create a unique dynamic. Warm up: A blend of Afro-carribean and Soca vybz (15 min) Cultural Technique: 'Follow the Leader' (passa passa style) Freestyle Technique: Things you can 'buss ina di club' either shotta (mini-choreos) or bruk out/dhq style (wining/bellydance, ticking, gyration, acrobatics/flexibility)
Moiika holds a Bachelor’s in Dance Pedagogy. Moiika had humble beginnings working for city recreation programs as dance instructor teaching ballet, modern and jazz technique for their afterschool community programs. She also worked for 2 dance studios for a sum of 4 years where she enjoyed the fruits of teaching teenage children in particular and giving them alternative positive activities that motivate them towards success. She was also a motivational speaker for Monster.com speaking at over 200 schools across the nation.
Moiika’s performance career began as a background dancer for music videos and tours. Her highlight performances are 2 performances in the Madonna reinvention tour 2005, Ma$e’s “Breath Stretch Shake”, and tour with B2K 2006, she also played a cheerleader in the movie “Like Mike” starring Michael Jordan and Lil Bow Wow. As the then starlet fiened for more star lite she was introduced to the proprietor of the International Dancehall Queen competition held in Montego Bay, Jamaica Brian “Big Head” Martin. Brian directed her to first compete at the regional level in California which she won Miss California Dancehall Queen.
